Making Gulash

I finally finished a piece that's been on my desk for quite sometime.

Back at 2010 I spent two months in Hungary on a working period.

Of course I had to try gulash. I have many photos, one which this painting is based on.

So it's called "Making gulash".

Did I mention that after the first trip I've visited there twice again.
Beautiful country with great people (and good food).

Joy to the world

"Sorella" and "fires at midnight"

This time inspiration avenue challenge is "Joy to the world". Challenge is to pick favorite artworks from the year 2013.

I fell in love with artjournaling this year so I decided to add my artjournal images here.

"Autumne"

"Day of the death"

It's been very emotional year. I had very difficult time at school in the spring. I was on a "sickness Holiday" trough all summer and I lost my dear cat Pumpuli in the autumn. If Karma kicks ass I believe my 2014 is going to magnificent.

It's not all  bad 2013. I made some new friends, travelled a lot (did my first interrail trip), found many cool new blogs :) and happily took part on a business course this fall and hope to start my own Company in spring. It's a big decicion.

I hope everyone had great Holiday time. I got so many new things:)

Love and light to everyone

Weather has been crazy few times it's been raining so much I've been shore that all the snow will melts away before the holidays but that hasn't happened (yei!)

At the end of November I went to the nearest city to see Kekri celebration. Kekri is an old finish harvest festival. It was spent at the beginning of November and used to be biggest celebration of the year in the calender of ancient finns. These days christmas has taken that Place but some places people are starting the Kekri traditions again.

Kekri was a festival of good food and dance and then people also burned a Kekri ram.

Here is the ram they had in the city. I tought it was quite handsome:)

And here it burns. Kekri was also considered as the beginning of a new yer so burning the ram symbolizes lot's of new beginnings.

I hope everyone has great wintertime with  family and loved ones

Thank you for coming and come back often

Painting Mountains

This is funny. First I started to upload something else but then I changed my mind.
Above you can see some imaginary mountains I painted at art class when I was 17.

These mountains I painted this September on my journey in Croatia. I think they are magnificent and these aren't imaginary. I had very solid models.

One of my favorite artjournalist Jenniebellie did an interview of me to her famous "tell it all tuesdays".
It was so much fun! you can read it here:

Thank you Jenny!

I submit my mountain artworks to paint party friday

Today Finland is celebrating it's 96th independence day. So I share my favorite "Finland" song with you.

Inspiration avenue: Mandalas

Inspiration avenue theme this week are "Mandalas".

I've done mandalas for a year now and they are very good artworks for doodling, meditation and creating new patterns.

These two I drew this week with felt tipped pencils. Both can be found on my sketchbook.

Today's christmas picture is my painting called "Nutcracker ballerina". I think painted this one on 2008 with watercolors. I love to watch balet on christmas. It always brings me Holiday spirit.

I just love art journaling

Good morning world:)

At this moment I have two A3 sized art journals. Above you can see one where I made a mandala for a cover. There is also a quote from  one of my favorite book "the alchemist".
There reads: "the secret of life is to fall down seven times and to rise up eight times"

I think it's very true and inspirational. Whenever you meet an obstickle it's possible to defead it.

One of my latest pages called "Autumne". Inspired by all the autumn colors. Perhaps she is a season goddess  making all the colors. Who knows..

(click image to make it larger).

This one I like a lot. It's a page called "Music and the movement". I found a photo from proschure. It showed almost "animalistic" and wild and free dance. I tought it was mezmerising and wanted to capture the movement so you can almost feel the music.

Inspiration avenue theme this week is "graditude" (and thanksgiving for the americans). Im grateful from many things (not any particular order) creativity, cat friends, friends, family, penpals, blog friends, art, seasons, and at this moment Im very happy that holidays are approaching. In Finland it's the darkest time fo the year but I find it very soothing to light up candles and put up decorations that have been around since my childhood.

Also submit these to:

Im off to little vacation next week but I'll try to squeeze a blog post or two:)

See you next time

My little angel

Here is my latest artwork called "my little angel".

My darling cat Pumpuli passed away in september at the age of 14. She was extremely beautiful cat (half turkish angora) and also pretty spoiled cat but I still miss her a lot.

I believe she is a little cat angel now. It's being said that cats have ability to visit their families even after passing this world.

(c) Niina Niskanen 2013 painted with watercolors on aquarell paper.

Here she is

This picture is from year 2000. You can see our handsome boy Noki (the black cat) as tiny kitten.

Mandalas

Good Morning world!

I realized I haven't shown my mandala's here in my "english blog".
So now you get to see them.

Above is my sun mandala and I hope it makes you smile. At least here in Finland we now live the darkest time of the year sun is very much needed.

This one I call "flower power mandala".

Mandala- word comes from sanskrit-language and it means "circle, universe or center". People have made mandalas trought centuries and longer than that. Most famous mandalas you can find in the hindu and buddhist- tempels also the circle window of the cathlolic churches have the mandala base.

This one is my "stamp mandala" which can be found on my artjournal. I used some old stamps I found on my stash.

(click the image to make it larger)

Last but not least my "rune mandala" inspired by the viking mythology. Wolf is for north, squirrel for the east, cow for the south and wild hog for the west.

I submit these mandalas to paint party friday

Inspiration avenue: houses and illustration friday: energy

Good morning blog world!

I took part on Inspiration avenue once again. New theme is HOUSES. I painted this little ACEO and call it a "christmas cottage".

Beautiful don't you think  and the original we'll be on sale on my etsy-shop.

ACEO:s (artist cards editions and originals) are small works of art collected and swapped world-wide. Their size is always 2,5 x 3,5 inches.

This is my entry for illustration friday. Theme is : energy.
I painted a cat full with blue winter energy looking for snowflakes with curiosity.

Here is one more ACEO. This one is called "snowman's buttons". He collects buttons and puts the to his big hat. This one also on sale in my etsy-shop.

Don't you just love zazzle. Look what I made:

and I just love this one

Here are some pictures for winter mood (these were taken last year by me).

Beautiful winter days to all

Grandma's attic and future galaxies

Good morning blog world!

This time inspiration avenue- theme is "grandma's attic". Well.. at least in my family both my grandmas love handcrafs and embroydryworks.

Maybe it's a heritage. Lady above is actually made by me (I think I was 15 or something).

These kitties are made by my grandma. Aren't they cute.

This one is also made by me (I  think I was 16 I can't remember) many years ago. This is one of my favorite. I love the beautiful and serene landscape.

On 3rd of november I finished this piece with  watercolors. Inspired by greek myth of the stars of Andromeda.

Space theme continued on the 4th day. I finished this piece called "Star horizon". Do you believe there are pirates in the future robbing galaxies? As you can see imagination is running free. I wonder what planet she is looking at?

I also submit these two to Paint party friday.

Much love and light to all and thank you for visiting
